The Kanga is a colourful, lightweight fabric worn by women and occasionally men throughout various parts of Africa, including Southern Africa, the Great Lakes region and the Eastern coast of Africa.It is a piece of printed cotton fabric which is usually wrapped around the body and worn most often as a skirt, a headdress or an apron. It can even be used as a household item for example a towel. Even though the kanga is widely used as an everyday item, it does also hold cultural significance. In Eastern Africa it is often given as a gift for special occasions and in Tanzania it is given to grieving families who are mourning the death of a loved one. 

The design of a traditional kanga has a border all round and a central motif which is different to that of the border design. In the early 1900s, proverbs, sayings and slogans were added. The earliest patterns featured small dots similar to the feathers of the guinea fowl. The Swahili word for guinea fowl is kanga and this is how this versatile fabric got its name.

Shipping Policy

Delivery is FREE in South Africa for all orders of R850 or more. Orders less than R850 will have a standard R150 delivery fee anywhere in South Africa. Dispatch Time Orders received Monday to Friday before 12pm will be processed the same day. Order received from after 12pm on Friday to Sunday will be processed for dispatch on the following Monday. Delivery Time If you live in Gauteng or a major city such as Durban, Bloemfontein, Nelspruit etc, your order should be delivered between 2-4 working days If you live in a major city in the Eastern or Western Cape, your order should be delivered between 3-5 working days If you live in an outlying area, your order can take from 4-6 working days or a week to be delivered. Please note: There are no deliveries on weekends and public holidays. Please note: Aranda Textile Mills will not be held responsible, if for reasons outside of our control, when a delivery is delayed.

Refund Policy

Refunds and Returns Prior authorization must be obtained before returning any goods. No unauthorized returns will be accepted. Only flawed products will be authorized for refunds. Shipping charges and special orders, are non-refundable. Items accepted must be returned in original packaging and undamaged. All postage and handling on return orders shall be at the expense of the customer. A 20% restocking and administration fee will be applied to authorized returns. No refunds or exchanges will be given after 5 days of receipt of goods.
