My Africa Himba Blanket

The Himba people of Namibia are a semi-nomadic tribe. The desert is their home and their unique way of life has been shaped by this environment.

They are widely known for their distinctive “red” appearance which is created through their application of otjize, a mixture of butterfat and the ochre pigment which is applied to the skin and hair. Otjize is symbolic of the earth’s rich red colour, as well as blood, "the essence of life".
